My approach as a practitioner has been informed by a combination of my own healing journey, and the various trainings I have completed. I am passionate about working in a trauma-informed way, as a result of that not being the norm as I was going through the thick of my own journey with Complex Dissociative PTSD. I have personally found that working with someone trained in psychosensory techniques who is trauma-informed has been more helpful to me than working with therapists who do not have training in psychosensory techniques.
It is extremely important to me that my clients know what to expect, and are able to make informed choice about their healing journey. I know first-hand how important it is to work gently where there is dissociation, and am so thrilled to have discovered Havening Techniques®, which enables us to directly target any dissociation that is present. This makes the healing journey so much easier for those of us who experience dissociation. Please note that I am a psychosensory practitioner who has done training in working with dissociation; I am not a trained therapist.
The main tools I use these days are Havening Techniques® and Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) as the are gentle yet also very powerful. I have seen people heal from such a big range of issues using EFT since I trained as a practitioner nearly 20 years ago. And Havening Techniques® is the only modality I’ve worked with that enables us to directly target traumatic memories while being creative or playful as we heal. The creator of Havening Techniques® discovered through neuroscience that the best way for the brain to absorb the receptors laid down during challenging times is to briefly activate them, then take our attention to something else while applying mindful havening touch. It is incredible to me, after walking the healing journey I did for so long, that we can be creative and playful and enjoy the process of healing thanks to this amazing discovery, even when working with deeply painful material. If you had told me that was possible when I was in the thick of the flashbacks and body memories, I would not have believed you. It is so touching for me that I can help others in this way now. With Havening Techniques® and EFT my focus is three-fold:
- Empowering you with simple self-regulation tools that are easy to integrate into your day to day life
- Supporting you in reducing current distress, and in healing from past experiences that are continuing to shape you in a less than optimal way now
- Supporting you in building the future you desire
My approach is also informed by my own journey with neurodivergence, and from my training in this area too. I was blessed with being granted a scholarship by the Ron Davis Autism Foundation in 2023, to attend a 5 day training which has deepened my understanding of how to support those on the spectrum. I am not trained as a facilitator in the Davis method, but doing the Davis Life Concepts for Autism Workshop has enabled me to support those on the spectrum as a volunteer, and to be able to refer clients on to a trained Davis Facilitator where appropriate. I love the Davis approach as it’s so empowering, and comes from a perspective of helping each individual to be more grounded in the world as the individual that they are, rather than any sort of need to “fix” anything.
